What Causes Constant Nausea, Weight Loss And Excess Mucus In The Throat?

I am having almost constant nausea, weight loss, horrendous mucus sometimes colored. No sinus pain, no sinus pressure, no fever. Had a bout of serratia marcescens that went into my stomach. Same nauseous feeling and gagging. Treatments with infused antibiotics. Is it possible the serratia could have travelled into my sinus cavity. I use a cpap machine. Thank you.

Hello,

1. Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis (CDSA)
2. Urine analysis
3. Chest CT
4. Sputum analysis and culture
5. Complete Blood Test including CRP (C-Reactive Protein)
6. TB Skin Tests

If required, please continue to use the CPAP machine. Meanwhile, please take these medications:

1. Guaifenesin: 400 mg orally every 4 hours as needed, not to exceed 2.4 g/day.
2. If too much nausea, Ondansetron 8 mg orally twice a day.
3. Ciprofloxacin 500 mg orally every 12 hours for 14 days

Yes, it may happen Serratia has spread. But as you told, infused antibiotics therapy has been done. There should be an effect. Although, I have given oral antibiotic therapy for 14 days.

I also suggest you do the tests without any delays. Until then, you should do symptomatic treatments, that is, take drugs as per requirement.

Please do inform if there is a fever in the future. Also, inform whether you are on any medication. Please post the test results and a doctor here will follow you up and give the next course of treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
