Hello Doctor, I am 62 years old and weigh 92 kilograms. I an 5 feet 5 inches tall. In my younger days I was slim, but there was a cyst in my thyroid gland, where after I gained weight. Today it is a degenerated cyst and my thyroid profile is fine. One constant problem has been low grade fever. It has been living with me for years now, Once I was diagnosed with unstable bladder after a UTI. I was admitted in hospital and intraveinous antibiotics helped and fever deserted me. A couple of months ago, my left hand would go numb. It started with tingling sensation on the tips of my finger during winter and finally culminated in numbness in left hand. I had traction, neck exercises etc but to no avail. My work involves research for long hours on the computer. The present problem is that low grade fever is back with ESR at 53 per hour. My ESR is on the higher (50 plus)side whenever investigated. Urine routine and culture is fine. My chest xray shows prominent broncovascular markings but heart is normal in shape and size. Some five months ago, I kept a young poor girl at home, who is suffering from TB and I am treating her (buy medicines and feed her well). She is still in my house. Is it possible that I was a perfect case for TB because of my low grade fever.? Do I have TB ? The one thing that I forgot to mention is that my periods stopped abruptly at 39 after a psychological trauma-- the blood test confirmed that I was not even any is pre-menopause stage. Sorry for a lengthy history. I need to know what tests I need to rule out both cancer and TB
