What Causes Constant Dryness And Burning Sensation On The Tongue?

I have a dry tongue that at times feels like a burning sensation. I did see a doctor that prescribed nystatin thinking that it may be thrush that resulted from antibiotic use. I finished the nystatin a month ago. After completing the prescription it still persists yet not as severe so the prescription was extended for an additional three day. I returned to my doctor who doesn't think it's thrush and said that I should ask my dentist. I am currently taking biotene products. There's no bother at night, no sore throat or breathing issues.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from Dry mouth or Xerostomia leading to Burning Mouth Syndrome that is causing burning sensation over the tongue..
Dry mouth causes atrophy/ thinning of tongue mucosa leading to inflammation and burning sensation..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations as per suspected cause depending upon the dry mouth can help in resolving the problem..
As of now chew sugar free chewing gum..
Drink lots of water..
Gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
Do cool water rinses..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
