What Causes Constant Cough Despite Taking Medication?

I have been coughing for about four-five weeks. I called the doctor and he said to go on Singular and Flonase (nasal spray) which I did. My doctor is assuming it s a sinus problem and told me to go on those medications last August. I have never really been bothered by sinus problems previously. Last Saturday I went to urgent care because I wasn t feeling any better. The doctor there put me on an antibiotic and steroid. I m on day four of both medications and still not feeling any better. I think I may have bronchitis. If no, Is it communicable? Should I complete the course of this treatment or wait until complete and then try to see my regular doctor?

Hi,

As per your query you have symptoms of a constant cough despite taking medication which is due to viral pharyngitis.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to

- Do warm saline gargles.
- Start vitamin C tablet for 10 days.
- Take a combination of Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen.
- Take steam inhalation along with vaporizer.
- Drink hot milk along with a pinch of turmeric.

Visit pulmonologist once and get it examined if symptoms keep on persisting. You should get blood tests done and get X-ray chest done and start treatment once a proper diagnosis is ruled out.

Yes, it can be communicable so get a complete course of treatment done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
