What Causes Consistent Cough?

I have had a bad cough for a couple of weeks now and went to my doctor on Monday. He prescribed Azithromyacin, one per day for three days. I will be taking the third one today. My cough seems to have gotten worse. I have always been a non-smoker, I have elevated my pillow, I take the generic form of Benedril and can't take this choking and coughing eight or nine times a day.

I ADVISE
-STEAM INHALATION WITH 'VICKS. 3 TIMES A DAY.
HOT SALINE GARGLES THRICE A DAY.
USE LOGENGES THRICE A DAY .
AVOID COLD DRINKS,ALCOHOL,JUNK FOOD.
TAKE ANT ACID .
TAKE COUGH SYRUP CONTAINING DEXTROMETHORPHN. AFTER CONSULTING DOCTOR.
AVOID ACE INHIBITOR IF YOU ARE HYPERTENSIVE.
CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR FOR BLOOD TEST.
HE MAY CHANGE ANTIBIOTIC.
P F T/SPIROMETERY.
ALLERGY TESTS.
X-RAY CHEST.
ECG.
WAIT A WHILE YOU WILL BE ALRIGHT.
