Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my 97 year old mother has suddenly changed behavior; she is suddenly showing acute confusion--talking as if to people in the room who are not there, etc.; and has been awake for many hours instead of her usual extensive sleeping; her blood pressure was also high. We have taken her to the hospital and they are observing her and have brought down her bp and giving her fluids (no food). But so far (one day) they have not been able to find the cause.
You mother has what is known as delirium- there is an acute medical cause for this. Common causes include infections (eg urine or chest). Other common causes might include constipation and dehydration It is important to check if any medications she might be having may be causing this as well. Finally medical cause such as a stroke might also cause this. A CT scan of the brain might be needed.
Kind regards
