I have had a cold with no temperatrure for 5 days now. If I take a cough suppressant I am fine, but if I dont, I hear like a squealing noise comming from my lungs when I exhale. Is this harmful to my health? ow long can i continue taking cough suppressants for?

Hello, I read your query and from what you described it appears that you most likely have bronchial Asthma although I need more information about your cough, it's timing, what aggravates it and what relieves it .
Yes it can prove detrimental to your health if not taken care off in time .
Ir can decrease your oxygen saturation overtime and increase your effort of breathing.
I suggest you go to a nearby clinic and have yourself assessed. You might be prescribed bronchodilators both nebulization and inhaler.
In the meantime try
1-steam inhalation
2-Avoid Smoking,dust , strong odors.
3- Avoid cold air
4- Try using a humidifier if you can.
5-Avoid cough suppressants as they will only aggravate your problem.
Hope that solves your query.Goodluck.
