Thank you for the query.
Pain on the left side of the chest can arise due to a multiple causes.
1. Cardiac chest pain - In case of Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction), the pain is usually crushing chest pain, accompanied generally by severe sweating, and radiation of the pain to the neck/jaw and left hand. The pain is not relieved spontaneously and medical intervention is required. In case of Unstable angina, the chest pain is precipitated by activity/or even at rest, but not relieved by rest. Use of drugs like nitrates, may relieve the pain. This pain is less severe in intensity than Myocardial infarction. Another type is stable angina, precipitated by activity and relieved on rest/medications.
2. Pleuritic chest pain - This occurs due to inflammation on the outer covering of the lung (also called the pleura). This type of pain is aggravated on coughing, sneezing or deep breathing.
3. Costochondritis - This pain occurs due to inflammation in the cartilage of the rib cage (costal cartilage). Pain has no specific aggravating factors, but relieved on taking painkillers like acetaminophen/NSAID.

Since you haven't mentioned your age or gender or any history of other associated comordities (like diabetes/hypertension)it is difficult to comment. Also I would like to know whether you had any rib cage injury. I would advise you to get an ECG done, and consult your physician, to be on the safer side.

Hope this helps you.
