There are more than 3 dozen causes of clay colored stools. But in your case what looks most likely is some disease process that is destroying Red Blood Cells. That may had been some bleeding diathesis, some
gastrointestinal bleeding or something else that caused your
hemoglobin so low and you landed into hospital.
If your hemoglobin level is improving then no worries. Its ok. It will take its time and will come back to normal again. Your physician must have given you medications to improve hemoglobin levels along with
blood transfusion. Take that medication timely and regulary. Maintaining a healthy diet, fresh fruit juices will help improve sooner. Green leafy vegetables, avocado is good to replenish iron stores and improve hemoglobin.
