What Causes Chronic Sneezing After Using Fluticasone Nasal Spray?

My prescription insurance no longer accepts Flonase, so my family physician prescribed Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray. For some reason, I m experiencing bouts of sneezing quite often. Because of nasal pollops (can t seem to spell that correctly), I underwent sinus surgery on four different occasions. The last time was the ONLY one that was successful, and Flonase solved ALL my sniffing, sneezing for over ten years. Suddenly, with the change to Fluticasone, which just took place six weeks ago, am back to nasal problems. Besides stuffing my schnozz with cotton, what could my problem be? Bill Lambert

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

While switching from a brand-name to generic has sometimes caused problems with patients, in general, the generic uses the same ingredients and has the same effect as the brand-name.

So unfortunately, I would suspect that your nasal polyps have returned and that you are having a recurrence of your sinus issues.

I would suggest getting in to see your ENT doctor for an examination to confirm whether this is the case.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
