What Causes Chronic Short Sight In Teenagers?

Hi, I m a 19 year old female who has worn glasses for the past 5 years. About a year and a half ago I got a new prescription. However he had said there wasn t a huge change in my prescription. Present day, my eyes are really bad! Everything at long distances is super blurry. At first I thought it was because of high amounts of caffeine, or I was really tired. I would choke it up as bad eyes, but The weird thing is, is that once in a while it s like my eyes focus and I can see the far away stuff, but it only lasts for a couple seconds. And caffeine or sleep doesn t seem to effect anything. Any ideas on why my eyes would suddenly focus? Or why they ve gotten so weird in the past year and half? I do have an eye appointment next week.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Inability to focus on distant object is suggestive of myopia or shortsightedness.
In myopia, person is able to focus near objects but distant objects are blurry and not clear.
Caffeine is not likely to affect vision.
Myopia is caused by too long eye ball is this is developmental.
It has nothing to do with food items or beverages.
The refractive error or myopia requires correction of power of lens that you are already using.
As you have mentioned that your ophthalmologist has not advised you to get the lens changed, however, I suggest you to consult some other ophthalmologist for checking of refractive error.
A change in power of your lenses is required.

Thanks and take care
