What Causes Chronic Pain In The Neck And Lower Back?

I am a 51 year old Caucasian female medical professional. I used to be a nurse, but now I work in a medical laboratory. I have a history of hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and hypothyroidism, GERD, bipolar disorder with general anxiety disorder and seasonal affective disorder, all well-controlled by medications. However, I also have chronic pain (neck and lower back) not well-controlled by NSAIDs. This past Monday, I did a few chores around the house, over-doing my usual physical activity. I was sore the next day. One curious symptom has continued after my generalized body muscle soreness subsided...I have an achy sensation in my left deltoid, radiating to my collarbone, up my the left side of my neck, and about halfway down my left arm into my bicep muscle. I have no tightness or heaviness in my chest; no dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath, diaphoresis, or nausea. I ve had episodes of benign PVCs. I ve previously had an EKG, 2-week Holter-Monitor study, and an Echocardiogram, all with normal, healthy results. I know denial is a killer when it comes to cardiac events. Should I be worried?

Hello ma’am,
I have got a fair understanding of your medical problem
the symptom that you are worried about doesn’t look like cardiac origin it may be of the musculoskeletal origin
yes like you said since you have a doubt might as well rule it out

Test- you can go for cardiac CT angiography
advantage is that if you have a negative study on cardiac CT than it’s surely no cardiac problem as it has 99 percent negative predictive value
and if you have positive than you can confirm with invasiave angiography

stay safe

regards
Dr Raza Ali
