What Causes Chronic Knee Pain?

I have chronic knee pain. It radiates from the back to the side and front. I am able to run 6+ miles but the next day (even after running less) I feel like I am walking on a stump. The back (acl) is so tight I can barely bend it. Also the front pain is terrible too. I did nothing, that I know, to injure it. Back in April/May I got up from bed and fell over. The entire day, at least, my knee was weak and would give out. thoughts?
