What Causes Chronic Gastritis While On Atenolol?

I have mitral valve prolapse with mild regurgitation and PVCs. I can feel my pulse beating in my throat, neck and upper abdomen almost all day long, worse when sitting down. Also sometimes have squeezing sensation across my upper chest. Recently started atenolol for the palpitations, it does help somewhat. I also seem to have chronic gastritis with pretty bad discomfort, painful gas, nausea. Could the gastritis cause heart palpitations to worsen?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

In my opinion, gastritis is not related to heart palpitations. I recommend using antacids such as Maloox. I also recommend using PPI medication such as Omeprazole 20 mg daily before breakfast.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
