Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Chronic diarrhea could be caused bacterial or parasitic digestive infections. Viral origin is less likely given the duration.Chronic diarrhea even though caused by the above mentioned causes is common in people who are immunodepressed like
chronic steroid use, HIV/AIDS,cancer,
malnutrition. In this case, we will term it an
opportunistic infection.I will suggest you see the Doctor for examination and work-ups. Work-ups like stool exam/culture and sensitivity test,
HIV test, full blood count and serum electrolyte to evaluate ionic complications of chronic diarrhea will be necessary. In the meantime, i will advise:
-You take oral rehydration salt to replinish electrolyte loss/anough fluids
-Take Zinc tablets
-An anti-diarrhea like imodium
-Eat bananas since it can improve on the quality of your stool
-You may also be hospitalized for IV fluid replacement of severely dehydrated.
An etiologic management of your problem will be after the tests.
Hope my answer will help you
Wish you a speedy recovery
