What Causes Chronic Cough?

I have a cough that will not go away. It gets worse when i lay down. Sometimes it is so hard I regurgitate. I don t feel like it s a cold and sometimes I find it hard to breathe. I also have an acid taste in my mouth and phlegm in my throat. What s really going on with me? My chest is also tight.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for your question on HCM & I do understand your concern

“As” per your clinical history is concerned you have GERD and to confirm it do an endoscopy and do a clinical examination by your local gastroenterologist. Regarding treatments you need a PPI like [pantoprazole]and it is a prescription drug which will be prescribed by your doctor. Do talk with your doctor to add [baclofen] and if you have already done conservative treatments so you can talk with your treating doctor regarding surgical therapy.
Besides, you may need some life style change like this:-

1)Maintain a healthy weight
2)Try to avoid tight-fitting cloths
3)Make a list of foods that make chest pain and try to avoid it
4)Try to eat small meals and avoid overeating
5)Wait for 3 hours before going to bed
6)Do not drink alcohol or smoking
7)Raise your bed at least 6 inches

Hope that helps
