Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your situation and problem.
By your history and description, possibility of viral Upper respiratory tract infection is more.
And history of similar complaints into family members suggest viral infection and spread.
So avoid robitussin syrup.
I can having expectorant. So it will cause more coughing.
Your rib pain is due to excessive coughing.
So better to start antihistamines and anti inflammatory drugs.
Do warm water gargles 5-6 times a day.
Avoid oily and spicy food. Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated.
Same instructions for your husband also as he I having similar symptoms.
Don't worry, you all well be alright in 1 week.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wishing good health to you and your husband. Thanks.
