What Causes Chronic Cough And Constant Fatigue?

For the past 9 or 10 days I have had this terrible racking cough and constant fatigue. I have been sleeping - or trying to sleep - for 14-16 hrs per day. Of course a lot of that sleep is interrupted by coughing. I ve also had light bouts of diarrhea....nothing too serious. I have not felt nauseas...have NOT vomited. the 3rd symptom besides cough and fatigue, is headaches. Most of the last 10 days I have had a disabling headache for at least a few hours per day. And finally, there is a lot of sinus drainage and nose-blowing going on. Otherwise, things are great, how are you? ha. I guess my question is, does this sound like something that needs attention or will it probably just go away on it s own? joe YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM
I have read and understood your concern
There are many medical medical conditions that may give you such symptoms.Possible causes may include:
-Respiratory tract infection. Most of these infections are of viral origin and may need only symptomatic treatment. However, bacteria infection or superinfection are possible and will need antibiotics.
-Allergy
I will advise you try the following:
*Keep warm
*Avoid exposure to respiratory irritants like dust, smoke and cold
*An anti-histamine like benadryl may help
*A steroid like prednisolone
Given how persitent symptoms have been, i will advise you see the Doctor for examination and to judge the need for antibiotics if any arguments in favour of a bacteria infection.
Hope this will help. You may write back if more concerns
Wish you good health
