What Causes Chronic Cough And Choking Sensation In Throat Despite Taking Cipro?

I ve had a cough for a couple weeks now it gets so bad sometimes I feel like I m choking up my innards. I do choke up slightly yellow but mostly white foamy flem. I ve had barrettes esophagus w hyatle hernia for about eleven years or so. Also have a fib for about five. Went to the dentist last week he gave me cipro for some work that needed to be done on my teeth. I went to my clinic today to renew my other scripts and was not feeling well due to the coughing he gave me a 7 day script of cipro. He did not know of the ten day script that I ve been taking and only have a few days left on My concern/question is. I ve had the cough for two weeks already been on cipro for the last 7. And I m still having issues sometimes my throat feels like it s closing up and I not sure if it s my pulse or anxiety but it goes crazy and wears me out. Is another 7 days of cipro going to help or hurt? Tired of feeling crummy n dizzy. Oh he said my lungs sound clear.Peggy

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of chronic cough and choking sensation in throat despite taking Cipro which is due to upper respiratory tract infection leading to bronchitis/ granular pharyngitis. The can be other reason also for cough and chocking like allergic condition like asthma or acid reflux. Also drink green tea with ginger thrice a day. Avoid use of sharp and spicy food substances , apply dry warm compresses on external ear. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. I would suggest you to complete the course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory medications. You should do warm saline gargles and take steam twice a day. Your symptoms will resolve in 1 week. if symptoms keeps on persisting you should consult ENT specialist and take proper treatment. You should get X-ray chest done along with pulmonary function tests. Doctor may prescribe stronger antibiotics at least for 5 days along with decongestant.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
