What Causes Chronic Cough And Breathing Difficulty In A Child?
My 3 year old daughter has had a cough for over a week now and the symptoms have gotten worse. I took her to a physician a few days ago. They said that it was croup and prescribed a one time steroid. Her cough has gotten worse. She has cold chills, trouble breathing, and she has lost her voice due to all the coughing spells she has. Could it be pneumonia or bronchitis? She has stopped coughing up phlegm as well.
Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of chronic cough and breathing difficulty which seems to be due to lung infection and bronchospasm due to that. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult pulmonologist without any delay. Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test and get an x ray of the chest and Immunoglobulin G levels checked for further treatment. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with decongestants and mucolytic agents. Do warm saline gargles with pinch of salt water. Take expectorants and steam inhalation and take rest. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
