What Causes Chronic Blockage In The Nose And Suffocation?

I m having a hard time inhaling. I m not getting enough oxygen in. It almost feel like there is blockage somewhere between my nose and under the breast bone. On and off I feel tightness on my chest....it feels just like when someone gives you a bear hug. I have to make myself yawn to try to get a satisfying deep breath but sometimes it doesn t work. This has been going on for a couple of years but the last few months has been at its worst and consistent. My doctor has been no help. Any ideas of what this may be besides anxiety?

Hi,

The symptoms you are describing can lead to two most probable diagnosis. First is anxiety. If you are passing a rough phase in life where you are feeling much stress, then you can feel breathlessness and tightening in chest. This may disappear on its own as you get out of the situation. If it is troubling you a lot, you can see a psychiatrist who can give you counselling sessions or can prescribe you anxiolytics to find relief in the situation.

Second is, you may have lung disease or asthma. To rule out this possibility, you should see a pulmonologist and should go for chest x-ray and Pulmonary Function Test. If asthma will be suspected, he may include the test for that in pulmonary function test and do appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthCareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
