3 weeks ago, my 7 yr old son got choked on a piece of hotdog about the size of the tip of your thumb, my mom had to give him the heimlich; he made sure to slow down his eating and chew his food well but got choked twice more in the next couple of days and now pretty much refuses to eat. an upper gi series was done, but anatomy and physiology appeard normal...he still says it hurts to swallow solid food and feels like he s getting choked...including what he s drinking he s only getting 3-500 calories a day...what else could be going on, what can I do...
Hello mem, Good morning, I read your history properly... Mem, chocking is common in small children as they eat hurriedly n still they don't have strong reflex...so you should teach him to eat slowly n properly chewing... N now chocking occassion was 2-3 times n having irritation while swellowing solid n liquid... So may be while chocking there is some injury may be minute injury in upper gi tract...n for that there is minor inflammation so your baby has irriation while swellowing anything ... That would be cure after 3-4 days only... But you did all investigation for upper gi as you mentioned like that so I think now your baby has some fear for again chocking so just calm him n assure that if he eats properly than he don't have problems...
