What Causes Chills On The Left Side Of The Body While On Lithium?

Hello, have been on lithium for about three weeks. I have been experiencing chills about 12 hours after taking it. Sometimes the chills are only on the left side of my body. Could it be the lithium? I will see my primary Dr on Friday to discuss and have my first blood test for levels.

Hi & Welcome.

Based on the history given you seem to have developed Lithium induced tremors.

Tremor is a common problem for patients taking lithium seen early in the course of treatment. It often decreases with time on lithium.

However, you are advised to consult your treating psychiatrist for other possible options include changing the dose or preparation of lithium, decreasing or eliminating other drugs, and using with beta-blocking drugs to reduce the frequency of tremors.

You should also avoid drinking caffeinated beverages, like coffee and certain teas or sodas, can make your tremors worse.

Hope this answers your query.
