What Causes Chills And Esbl Infections After Biopsy?

I m in hospital with my husband. He had biopsy because his PSA was 4.75. After Biopsy he had chills and now he is with ESBL infection , gram negative resistant to anitbiotics. His cancer is benign not even stage 1. Because of this infection he s hesitant to go for any other procedure related to prostate. Pls advise can we wait and watch the growth of cancer?

Hello,
prostate biopsy is essential for cancer diagnosis and estimation of prognosis. Unfortunately in some cases (not very often) complications happen. You ran into one of them. He's probably got infected with a hospital bacterium (ESBL bacteria reside in hospitals) that needs special treatment.
There are scoring systems (Gleason grading system) for prostate cancer prognosis. Prostate cancer can be aggressive - which can prove difficult to treat - or not. If it is aggressive then you can't just watch and wait. He needs treatment. If not, then it's very possible that the cancer will be growing so slowly that he'll never have a problem with it.
I hope I've addressed your concerns!
If you need further assistance, please ask me again!
Kind Regards!
