What Causes Chest Pressure And Dizziness After A Thyroidectomy?

I am a 49 year old female recently had a thyroidectemy (full) for thyroid cancer 11 months ago. Now six weeks ago I was taken to the ER with spiking BP and HR, tingling and dizziness. While in the hospital they started the testing for pheochromocytoma and put me on BP meds. After exhausting testing by my endocrinologist - no pheo. Saw a cardiologist who does not believe it is a heart issue, I have had a stress echo and numerous ekg showing nothing. Symptoms are still here and chest pressure and dizziness are increasing. My GP is not sure of the next step except to manage my BP.

Hello,

As per your mention of total thyroidectomy, the parathyroid glands are removed leading to primary hypoparathyroidism leading to hypocalcemia which may lead to tachycardia and spikes in blood pressure.

If not we need to look into the other causes like anxiety neurosis, raised aldosterone levels or if you are taking thyroxine in overt doses as replacement therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
