What Causes Chest Heaviness And Cough Despite Taking Amoxicillin?

I went to the doctor last Friday for cough chest heaviness and rattling in the lungs. Was prescribed omoxicillin and 2 inhalers. I still have wet cough and chest heaviness but not my lungs are making weird popping sounds when I breath. It almost sounds like rice crispies in my lungs. Should I stay on meds or go back to the doctor?

Thank you for the query.
The symptoms that you have mentioned (cough, heaviness in the chest, and noise while breathing), is highly suggestive of a respiratory tract infection (seemingly lower). I would like to enquire whether you are having fever along with this or not, and about any associated comorbidities like diabetes, High blood pressure or asthma. As you are already on antibiotics (Amoxycillin), it is advisable that you complete the course for 7 days. However, if you symptoms are aggravating, or you are developing breathing difficult or high fever (>100 F), it is advisable to consult your physician again. Some basic blood tests like WBC total count and CRP may be needed to check for infection. If you are producing sputum (since you have mentioned wet cough), a sputum test for Gram stain and culture may be needed. If cough doesn't subside in a week, a chest X-ray may be done to check for infection. In the meantime you continue with the antibiotics and prescribed inhalers.
