What Causes Cervical Dysplasia?
Hi, I am 23 years old, i was diagnosed recently after a biopsy with cervical dysplasia, the doctor told me it was most likely caused by an HPV infection. I started my sex life only 4 months ago, when i received oral sex without protection, this was only a one time event. 2 months ago i started having sex (using a condom) this time with penetration with my current boyfriend, but there were times there was direct contact without penetration and without a condom. Is there a chance that the first person who gave me oral sex passed the virus to me? Or is it more likely that my current partner gave me the virus and in 2 months i could have developed dysplasia? Thank you

Cervical dysplasia is the precursor to cervical cancer. It is caused by persistent HPV infection, the most common being HPV 16. It can be treated effectively when caught early. Most people get genital HPV infections through sexual contact including vaginal, anal and oral sex. It is very difficult to say where from you got it. Generally it takes more than a year, that means the virus is more than a year in a body before it starts its carcinogenic activity. That means none of the partners are culprits in your case. But, it can be any of them because oral sex can also transfer the HPV to your body.
