Hi
The neck happens to be a very important part of the body with a coordinated network of nerves, bones, and muscles. There are a number of medical conditions that can cause
neck pain.Since there are many nerves in this region, irritation of the nerves can be felt in all parts to which the nerves lead: shoulder, head, arms and hands at times.
Common but not illness-related causes of neck pain may be
muscle strain or sprain, sleeping in an uncomfortable position, any activity that repeatedly turns the neck from one side to another, poor posture for long, tension in the neck due to excess stress. One of these is likely to be the cause of your problem
Pain in the neck may also be caused by
cervical spine disorders like cervical disc herniation, cervical degenerative
disc disease or
cervical osteoarthritis.
Infectious causes of neck pain do exist but less likely in your case.
With all these causes, only a good history of your pain and physical examination by a Doctor with some imaging study of the neck may reveal the exact cause.I will suggest you
consult a Rheumatologist for this if it persist. You may take pain medication like
Ibuprofen for 5 days and observe. If the pain continues you see the Doctor
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
