What Causes Burning Sensation On Face?

My grandmother is experiencing a hot, burning in her face every few days for the last month. It lasts for about a day and she says it makes her so weak she can hardly walk. She has high blood pressure (is on 3 different medications for it), and in October was treated with Prednisone for 10 days for Bell s Palsy in her face (numbness). The numbness went away, but now she has the burning. They are sending her for tests and think it might be a hormone imbalance, but it is going to take several more weeks and she is not doing well.

Hello,

I can understand your concern for burning sensation on face of grand mother. I can interpret from your query that your grand mother is quite old and accordingly the burning sensation on face is quite bothersome for her. In all your grand mother’s kind of cases I generally go for a routine physical examination to see any internal cause of the same.

A blood examination to see all the profile s related to internal aspect is also quiet important. If found satisfactory then I generally go for Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D level. A low level of Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D can cause such kind of burning sensation on face. A supplementation of Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D can be given along with application of soothing calamine or moisturizing lotion. You can take further guidance from your treating family physician or dermatologist.
Take care.
