What Causes Burning Sensation In The Vagina While Suffering From UTI?

My Mother 83 years of age has urinary track infections and she has been being treated for them. I took her to a specialist and he stated she had no infection but took samples to send off to a lab. My Mother is miserable and she has burning when she pees and feels like she is on fire. She has been using a estergion cream for the past years and was using to often so he had her now only using 3 times a week. So confussed why she is in such pain. The doctor put her on Methen 12mg.caps for pain which is not helping yet. She hurts sitting, standing and feels like her bladder is on fire inside. She has applied ice packs to this area for some relief. Help her daughter Janet

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Burning sensation during urination is indicative of UTI and at this age there is decreased immunity seen in old people as compare to others, so the symptoms and its effects on body are severe in old patients.

I would suggest you to take her to ER as the pain is constant and might need to administer I.V medicines for better results so she will be managed well in the hospital after admitting.

The doctor in the ER might ask for another lower abdomen ultrasound for better understanding and better treatment plan and also ask for some blood work to be done.

There might be need of other medicines or change in the medicines depending on the test results. Follow your doctor’s advice till she recovers from this.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
