What Causes Burning Sensation In The Upper Abdomen After Eating?

I sometimes have an severe attack after I haven just eaten. I had one tonight in which my upper stomach felt like it was on fire. I belched several times and than vomited 3 times. Now I am fine. I also broke out in a cold sweat. I ate a steak with sautéed onions and mushrooms, baked potato with butter, sour cream and cheese and a salad with tomatos, lettuce, cheese, raw onion and ranch.

Hello,

If this is a single episode very likely it is nothing to worry, a viral infection can be the cause. You can try to drink and eat frequent small amount of food and water to avoid stomach overload and avoid spicy and heavy food. Avoid coffee, smoking and alcohol.
If this is a repeated episode that you get pain after eating then there are two main things to consider. One is the gallbladder and generally it causes problem in women over 40 but can happen to anyone. The other problem to consider is stomach ulcer.
To help diagnose these you might need an abdominal ultrasound that will give good information on the gallbladder and if this is normal then you will need an endoscopic examination of the stomach to visualize the stomach mucosa and rule out stomach ulcer.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
