What Causes Burning Sensation In The Eye Post Vigamox Eye Drops Usage?

Hi, I had Lasik surgery last Thursday and on Friday have been using Vigamox and Prednisolone drops 4x/day. The Vigamox caused very slight burning a couple of times but when I put the drops in my eyes tonight, I experienced fairly severe burning and my vision blurred significantly. I flushed my eyes with Thera Tears and they are started to feel normal again. Is this a common reaction? I was prescribed to use the Vigamox for 4 days post-surgery (today was day 3) but I plan to call the doctor before using them again tomorrow.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is not uncommon for patients to experience some burning or stinging sensation after using eye drops following Lasik surgery. However, the burning and blurring of vision that you describe are more severe than usual and may indicate an adverse reaction to the drops.

I recommend contacting your doctor as soon as possible to discuss your symptoms and determine whether or not you should continue using the Vigamox and Prednisolone drops. In the meantime, it is a good idea to flush your eyes with Thera Tears or another artificial tear solution to help soothe any discomfort. It is also important to follow the instructions given by your doctor and use the drops as directed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
