What Causes Burning Sensation During Urination?

I am having a burning and hurting during urination. I have been dating this gentleman and one thing lead to another. We did not mean for anything to happen, but it did. We ended up have sex and did not mean for it to happen. I have not had sex with anyone in over 14 years. Could I have a sex transmitted disease from this man? He is 64 and I am 54.

Hello and thank you for using healthcaremagic.

I understand your concern about the situation. Given your description, it is likely for you to be having a urinary tract infection, and you had unprotected sexual intercourse with the gentleman, there is a possibility of having contracted it from him too.

Having said that you cannot be absolutely sure about anything unless you get yourself and if possible this gentleman tested.

It is a known fact that women tend to have urinary tract infections more commonly than men because of the significantly shorter urinary tract in women. Also considering your age, where menopause has already set in, which leads to atrophy of vaginal walls, which can lead to itching, and the fact that you had sexual intercourse in quite a long time, this might be simple case of vaginal irritation (vaginitis).

In any case you should get at least yourself checked, as in either case the treatment is very simple. In a case of some urinary tract infection or a sexually transmitted disease, a simple course of antibiotics will help, and in case of vaginitis, lubrication gels and anti irritation medication will be enough. Also the checkup will help to rule out other diseases.

Hope you get well soon.

I hope I have answered your query with adequate information. If you have any follow up queries feel free to ask them.

Thanks again
