What Causes Burning Sensation After Surgery In The Arm?

I ruptured my distal bicep and had surgery on it on Nov 19th. It s been a little over 8 weeks and my upper arm is receiving burning pain. Do you know what that can be from? Also is it odd that my surgeon has not recommended that I have an elbow brace till week 8? I ve been in a sling since surgery. Besides being able to let it be out at home.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have burning sensation after surgery in the arm. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like nerve damage during surgery like ulnar nerve , viral infection or hormonal imbalance like thyroid hormone . There can also be other reasons like tendinitis and muscle strain . I would suggest you to apply ice pack , take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain , take proper rest and do not lift heavy object with your arm . If condition doesn't get well then consult orthopedic surgeon and your surgeon for proper examination . Doctor will examine physically by checking the movement and order CT scan or MRI to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant along with anti inflammatory or nerve supplement for quick healing . Doctor may also recommend physical therapy or re consider surgery in case of severe nerve damage .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
