What Causes Burning In Throat And Chest After Smoking?

My throat and chest burn after smoking this has happen before but doesn t last long usually just the day I ve been smoking, I m really not a smoke I may smoke once in a blue moon but I m really concern about the dry sore throat and burning in my chest. There is no real pain when I swallow and when I clear my throat it feels a lot better..could this be a sign of throat cancer or is my throat irritated from smoking...

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Dear,
There could be following reasons for your symptom
1) smoke itself is a strong irritant and may cause irritation of throat.
2) Chronic smoking does predispose to acidity, which in turn may give rise to chest burning.
3) smoking is an important risk factor for Acid reflux condition, that present as burning sensation in chest and throat

My suggestion to you would be
1) Consult local ENT specialist as it warrants detailed local examination.
2) stop smoking. A consultation to psychiatrist for deaddiction from smoking will help.
thank you.
