Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What could cause sudden bulging veins with extreme pain to a 75 year old male with a history of two strokes within 4 weeks of each other over two years ago? He also has multiple stents in his heart. He is home bound due being totally paralyzed on the right side. The problem is in his left hand and forearm.
Since the bulging veins with extreme pain are in the left hand and forearm, you are advised to get him clinically examined by the treating cardiologist. Get him a follow up clinical examination done. It could be an indication of CAD, coronary artery disease that may need urgent follow up and treatment.
It can also be indicative of Thrombophlebitis, blood clots in the veins. Many other factors go into making arm and hand veins more prominent. Lower body fat, hydration, etc., influence vein prominence. The treatment will depend on the pathology detected and severity of the symptoms. He will have to go through few repeat tests and investigations.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
