What Causes Bruises On The Wrist?

my wife has bruising on her wrist below the palm of her hand and extends about 3 inches in length and about 2 inches in width. She stated that she hasn t hit it on anything or remember hurting it in anyway that she knows of. She said she thought she might have been bit around the area, but nowhere within the bruised area. what might this be? and do I need to be concerned about this?
