What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge?
Hi doctor, I am 27 year married female having PCOD and was on glucophage from past 3 months hence was periods were normal with 28 days of cycles. As my husband is usually out of station due to work. Last week i was with my husband and had unprotected sex as we are planning to get concieve. My periods due is usually on 10th of every month but this month was periods were delayed with 6 days and it was not normal, it was dark brown color discharge with some clot on the first day and 2nd and 3r day it was very less with brownish black color discharge. Usually i get my periods properly for 4 days. But this this is something different. Please advise me what could be the reason.

Well, the cause of yellowish or brown vaginal discharge is common and usually harmless issue. Occasional spotting between periods might have this appearance and can be normal, especially if you're taking low-dose birth control pills. So in most cases this is not sign of disease. If it is, then usually this indicates bacterial vaginosis, STD or polycstic ovarian syndrome. Less common, some other hormonal disorders may be present. In some cases, however, a yellow or brown vaginal discharge could indicate a serious problem. Although brown and yellow vaginal discharge often does not indicate a serious problem, it should not be ignored if it persists, recurs or is accompanied by other symptoms and htn eyou should see gynecolgosit for further work up.
