What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge Accompanied By Foul Odour?

I am 18 and have been experiencing mild to moderate cramps a week before my period would even start. These cramps come and go during the day and vary in intensity. As soon as it would start everything would go normally.
I am also experiencing occasional orangey-brown vaginal discharge accompanied by an odd odor (not a bad odor, just not a normal one) usually during this week of dry cramps. I have not been sexually active for at least 1.5 years nor have I had these issues until the last couple of months. The discharge has been rare while the cramps always happen but vary in severity.
I do not know if these two symptoms are related, as they do not always accompany each other, or if this has anything to do with dehydration, as I have just recently been drinking water regularly.
I don't have money to go to a doctor and am hoping the treatment is relatively cheap. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due to pelvic inflammatory disease. A pelvic examination by gynecologist and ultrasound examination is necessary to rule out this. Swabs should be taken also. If infection is there then antibiotic therapy will make you better. Tuberculosis also should be ruled out as it is common in young women with such symptoms. Antispasmodic like dicyclomine will be helpful in relieving cramps also.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
