What Causes Brown Mucus Anal Discharge?

Hi, I m female 20. Quite often I pass mucus through my bowel movements and sometimes just on their own. Sometimes it s completely clear and has a slight fish smell and other time it can be abit brown. It s really worrying me because I ve had it for over a year now and I m too embarrassed to go to the doctors about it. Thanks

I understand your concern.
Passing mucous discharge which is brown in colour and having fishy smell indicates that you could be having anal fissure. It might be bleeding on and off.
As constipation is one of the cause which aggregates this condition, you need to take care about it.
Drink good quantities of water. Consume foods which are soft and easily digestible. Add fibre to your diet by consuming leafy vegetables and fruits like papaya. You can take laxatives like Isapgol Husk Fibre powder with water in case you experience symptoms of constipation.
In spite of taking above measures, if the problem persists, you need to consult Surgeon for an opinion.
