What Causes Breathlessness In Sleep While On Medication For Hypertension?
I am 56 and have high blood pressure...i take my meds daily but lately like the last 3 wks i have been waking up from my sleep grasping for air and when i cough i pee...I was in a fire three weeks ago and moved to a new house with a swamp cooler...i could have sworn i smelled a chemical smell here but i was waking up grasping or air prior to the fire....i am poor...and stressed out alot whats going on?
You have a history of hypertension & have been taking medications for it. Do continue to take your medicines as prescribed. It looks like you are suffering from Chemical exposure & inhalation. Stay away from that area & try to breathe fresh air in an open environment. Presently you have breathlessness but it can become severe after 12 hours of exposure or in long term result in lung damage with shortness of breath or wheezing.
1. You are suggested to visit ER & get X-Ray, CT, Pulse Oximetry & Lung function tests done.
2. You may need Oxygen or mechanical ventilation.
3. Bronchodilators, antibiotics, intravenous fluids & corticosteroids reduce the inflammation of the lungs & reduce breathlessness.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
