What Causes Breathlessness After Taking Metoprolol?

I am 64, 5 5 a smoker 1 to 2 packs a day. Limited exercise. I am taking amlodipine 10mg once a day. Also taking metoprolol, 25mg daily. I feel tired, weak and shortness of breath, since taking this medication. Arms and shoulders feel heavy and arms are tingling. No pain in chest, just heavy feeling. I have panic attacks daily. I do not think my doctor understands or really seems interested in my condition. He says, I watch to many TV ads ? Where do I go and what do I do?

Thanks for your question! I do not know the reason of taking amlodipine and metoprolol? But I think for problems with blood pressure, or cardiac problems. What I want to say about your concern is that you are a regular smoker and regular smoking for many years causes Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease( COPD). The use of metoprolol in such condition is not recommended. Metoprolol is beta 1-blocker and it also affects the airways, making them to constrict and leading to difficulty in breathing. In my every day practice I tray to avoid metoprolol (or other medications of the same group) in cardiac patients that suffer from COPD. If I was your doctor, I would replace metoprolol with another medication that has the same function bud does not affect the airways.
I hope I have answered your question.
