What Causes Breathlessness After Inhaling Bleach Fumes?

I inhaled straight bleach yesterday while cleaning dog urine ou of the grout in a 3x3 small area. Realizing how strong the odor was, I immediately opened all the windows of the apartment and turned on the fans. But the strong odor did not dissipate until I realized that I the rags I used that were saturated with the straight bleach were still onthe floor and had been for almost an hour. Since then I have had difficulty breathing especially after any activity which still continues today.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain inhalation of bleach fumes can cause inflammation of the airway and there can be constriction of the bronchioles as a reactive phenomena after inhaling bleach fumes and can lead to sore throat as well as shortness of breath..
In case if you have severe discomfort you can consult a Pulmonologist and get evaluated and he can do a laryngoscopy as well as if needed chest x ray can be done to check for the exact cause of the symptoms..
You can be advised to take anti allergics to relieve the constriction of bronchioles as well as steroid inhaler to reduce broncho constriction..
Avoid exposure to the bleach fumes or any other irritants and also use a humidifier in your room..
Saline nasal irrigation and steam inhalation can also help..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
