What Causes Breathing Difficulty In Sleep?

at nite or when ever i go to sleep,after being asleep awhile i wake up not breathing my body acts as if i just quit breathing-i am 74 ys and got copd,and problems from smoking,,i have oxygen and it still does it..why would i stop breathing even with oxygen on

Based on your clinical history and query, my opinion is as follows:
1. It appears to be due to sleep apnea syndrome
2. You need to get sleep study done to evaluate the cause.
3. After evaluation appropriate medical device may be used. Surgery can be tried, if medical devices are not beneficial.
