What Causes Breathing Difficulty After Catheter Ablation?

I had catheter ablation done about 5 weeks ago. After surgery I had trouble breathing. It wasn t like trying to catch my breath- I didn t have any air in my lungs to inhale. I had a sniff x-ray taken and Dr. told me diaphragm wasn t working properly and this would last 4-6 weeks. When I just walk my O2 sat goes down to 86 and then O2 is applied per nasal cannula. This is the worst and scariest thing that has happened to me and I ve been through a lot. I just need some reassurance that this is not permanent and I ll breathe normal again. Thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, the catheter ablation is commonly associated with injury to phrenic nerve giving breathing difficulty. There are various data available showing its duration of effect as 6 to 28 months post involvement.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
