What Causes Body Weakness And Loss Of Appetite After Undergoing Hernia Surgery?

I am new to this. Is there a fee involved? My Mom is 83, just had hernia surgery & did very well with it & while in ICU but 4 days later they did a needle fluid withdraw from her lungs which depleted her a good bit as it did when she had it in March but this time she has continued to have weakness & loss of appetite so I am searching possible contributors from new medicine interaction side effects. Seems aspirin, acetaminophen & remeron could be a problem with the Cardizem that was added. I haven t completed the checklist, she is & has been also on Coumadin which interacts with most drugs & I believe new now Ioprol XL. Do you think these things could make a significant difference? thank you, DEBBIE BRANNAN YYYY@YYYY

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Since the age of patient is 83, all the organs are also aged and hence respond slower than the younger people. your Mother is already on Coumadin which is a blood thinner.
Loss of appetite is common and the cause can be anything that needs consideration. Antibiotics, changed atmosphere, may be first surgery in her life, other medicines and so on can be the cause which needs to be found out and the medicines changed or stopped.
Reassurance plays a vital role and should by done by family members and Medical professionals by counselling and medicines if required.
Identify and stop the medicines that are interacting and causing the symptoms.
Multivitamins, minerals and trace elements helps a lot.
PPI like Pantoprazole, antacids as and when needed,
I hope hernia surgery is successful and healing well.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
