What Causes Body Itching While On Valium?

Hello I am taking valium 5 mg tablets once a day at bedtime and have been noticing some itching since taking the medication. I read where 2 mg tablets do not have dye. Do you think that if I get an rx for the 2mg tablets I will not have the itching. Previously I did take the 2mg tablets and did not experience itching like with the 5 mg.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your concern. It is true that itching is one of the side effects of Diazepam (Valium) and it seems to be dose dependent, so 2 mg tablets are less likely to cause itching.
Provided you have a prescription and a valid need for this medication, I recommend you switch to the 2 mg. However, you should first discuss this with your doctor, since Valium is an addictive medication and long term should be avoided.

Wishing you all the best.
