What Causes Body Chills While On Aricept?

My husband has been taking Aricept for about 3 weeks. Now his is chilling and won t eat and two days ago had a bad case of diarrhea. His internist gave him Aricept for his beginning stage of dementia. He also has congestive heart failure and has had 14 stents. Are his symptoms a common side affect of Aricept? I stopped it two nights ago.

Hi,

Aricept is Donepezil and is used commonly in dementia. The drug is safe and reduces the progression of dementia and cognitive impairment.

Its common to develop gastric upset and diarrhea with this drug. In most cases, symptoms reduce on its own in less than a week. Starting with a low dose prevents these side effects.

If the diarrhea is persistent then please talk to your doctor and ask for a reduction of doses.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Seikhoo Bishnoi,
