What Causes Blood While Urinating?

Hi my Grandfather has been suffering with a urin infection for the last 2 years, so they say but today he had blood in his urin, but later on in the evening he needed the toilet again but at this time it seemed that it was just like pure blood, and was coming out for quit some time. He has only one kidney left as he had one removed just over 10 years ago, he has no temp or pain, but has gone off his food a little, if you could give me your thoughts that would be great, i have the thoughts on what it could be, thank you for your time.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Consult a urologist and first get an ultrasound of the abdomen done to look for the status of the urinary bladder and the kidney. Frank blood in urine in an elderly aged person usually indicates bladder cancer unless proven otherwise. Second cause of frank blood in urine is renal cell carcinoma of the kidney. So consult your urologist immediately.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Venkat Narayana Badipatla,
General Surgeon
