What Causes Blood In Stools?

My husband has been having blood in his stool for the past 3-4 days it is bright red. He says it is from not eating properly. Could that be it or something more serious? Last night he had a terrible tremor attack. He began shaking and shivering uncontrollably for about 20 minutes, he took a boiling hot shower in which he vomited and said he felt a little better, afterwards he had a fever began at 100 then 101, 102 and 103.4 was the highest. Today he feels better, fever is gone and all but he is still having bloody bowl movements.

Bloody bowel movements and fever are very concerning for infection. If he has any additional fevers I would take him to an ER for evaluation.
If he has no fever, the most common causes would be constipation/straining to stool which can lead to hemorrhoids and anal fissures or tears. These usually resolve on their own but if the bleeding continues and/or he has additional fevers, please have him evaluated urgently.
